Before and After: Tonya and Carl's Main Level Remodel
Tonya and Carl raised their 3 boys in their beautiful Maple Grove home. After all the kids left, they made a decision to stay in their home as long as they made some updates to the main level. Carl has worked with Meg on her business banking needs for years, and recently contacted her to discuss remodeling their own home! It started with discussion surrounding the kitchen and soon they decided to tackle other areas in the main level.
Since we were touching every room of their main floor, they had to create a make shift kitchen in the basement. They joked about it being the right time for a diet considering it’s just the two of them in their home now. That joke turned to reality as they looked into the service called “Healthy For Life”, a company that creates a healthy menu of 3 meals per day that can be picked up twice a week. They commented on how easy it is to just grab the meals and microwave if needed. It also helped them deal with the challenges of a kitchen remodel. They look wonderful, and so does their kitchen!
The Kitchen
The kitchen perimeter cabinets were in good condition and to help their budget go further, we decided to paint them a light warm gray tone. Their old kitchen had a small, dysfunctional island which didn’t get much use and a very small dining area that always seemed to be in the way of traffic flow. They have a table in their sunroom and a formal dining area also, so we designed a large island with expansive storage, an under counter microwave drawer and ample seating area that juts out into the previous dining space. They can comfortably seat 4 here. When entertaining comes back, they are looking forward to sharing this great space with friends & family!

We selected a new color of quartz for all the countertops; MSI Calacatta Arno; a crisp white background with warm large veining throughout. Along with a brick style tile backsplash and accent color over the new gas range

We also added some brushed gold to the palette with globe style pendants over the island and sink, along with matte black & gold hardware on the cabinetry.

We modified a desk area that was not being used and created a custom-designed beverage center with walnut floating shelves and a beverage chiller from Ferguson.
The Living Room
Carl and Tonya’s home had the original maple wood floors in the foyer, kitchen and dining, and carpet in the family room, living and formal dining. For consistency and durability, we opted to tear out all this flooring and installed new luxury vinyl plank that pulls together their existing maple trim and the new tones in the cabinetry and countertops.
At the last minute, they asked about painting the cabinetry in the adjacent family room to match the kitchen cabinetry and we painted all the walls in the main level with a beautiful light neutral tone: Sherwin Williams Gossamer Veil 9165.

Other Areas: Foyer, Dining Room, and Front Door
New luxury vinyl planks were installed throughout the main level to pull together their existing maple trim and new tones in the cabinetry and countertops. To top off their project, and for the sake of first impression, their tired old front door was replaced with a brand new door and a full view sidelight on each side.
